Title: Senior Editor (Temporary)
Reports to: VP, Operations
Position Type: Temporary position through January, with reevaluation at the beginning of February for potential continuation
Position Summary:
The Senior Editor will be a steward for client, brand, and AMA style; ensure FDA guidelines are adhered to; follow and improve internal processes; and meet timelines and deadlines. The Senior Editor will partner with team members across Creative, Project Management, and Account Services to ensure accuracy and deliver on client expectations. The successful candidate will take immense pride in their work, demonstrate impeccable attention to detail, and maintain strong working relationships across agency teams. The Senior Editor will represent the department in internal brand meetings and serve as the editor of record for their assigned brand(s).
As this is a temporary role through January, the Senior Editor will focus on immediate editorial needs and workflow support. The position will be reevaluated in early February based on business needs and performance.
The Senior Editor will be a resource for teams in ensuring edits are implemented according to agency procedures and best practices, providing support and offering ideas as needed. They will also help train and support editors and new hires in departmental processes. The Senior Editor will be responsible for completing individual editorial tasks as assigned and for maintaining and elevating the quality and standards for work across the agency.
Key Responsibilities + Areas of Accountability:
Act as brand and Editorial steward for one or more aligned accounts, fostering collaboration and accountability within the team. Proactively engage in conversations with brand teammates to address issues, seek solutions, and strengthen the team dynamic
Responsible for editing assets (concepts, manuscripts, layouts/mechanicals, site/content maps, wireframes, functional specification documents, and disk releases) for grammar, sense, punctuation, and spelling according to style and client/regulatory requirements
Work independently with minimal supervision while communicating and collaborating with team members
Perform specific types of reads as outlined in the agency job-flow process
Fact check claims for accuracy, including verifying statistics and data per primary references and ensure citations are styled properly based on annotations provided
Read pieces vs core documents for consistency across campaigns
Build and maintain working relationships with Copywriters to establish preferred mode of working together and to cement team structure
Collaborate with Account Services team members to ensure client and regulatory preferences and updates are maintained
Review pieces at each stage of the project lifecycle according to agency job flow and departmental procedures
Effectively communicate significant Editorial concerns to team members to ensure alignment and timely resolution
Create/maintain Editorial style guides outlining client/brand style elements, especially those that differ from AMA style, and upload to appropriate channels for team access
Attend assigned account status and kick-off meetings to represent Editorial interests
Additional Responsibilities:
Demonstrate ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects
Build relationships and establish workload routines with agency and freelance editors
Project a professional, positive attitude toward all agency employees and clients
Remain calm in high pressure situations
Communicate clearly and often—verbally and in writing
Develop in-depth knowledge of assigned accounts
Serve as back-up for accounts assigned to another editor
In order to best support the submission process, develop knowledge of client’s process/procedures for submissions
Uphold the Company Values in all decisions and interactions
As needed, serve as lead editor on launches
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree—preferably English, Journalism, or Communications major
A minimum of 4-6 years of editing experience in a pharmaceutical advertising agency or a medical publishing house
Superior editing skills and knowledge of pharma marketing best practices
Familiarity with AMA style
Knowledge of and interest in the health care industry
High level of language and communication skills
Ability to follow instructions and adhere to strict guidelines
Occasional limited travel required

Pay Transparency: The range included in the post represents the low and high end of the base salary someone in this role may earn as an employee of Heller, Inc. in the United States. Salaries will vary based on various factors including but not limited to professional and academic experience, training, associated responsibilities, and other business and organizational needs. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation package for employees. Salary decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each hire.
